H.E Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi – GCAA Director General deposited the ratification for the two amended protocols made for the Chicago convention 1944, which is the convention governing issues related to international civil aviation and was considered the base for ICAO’s foundation. The amendments included Article 50 (A) to increase number of the council’s members to be 40 instead of 36, as well as the amendment to Article 56 of same agreement to increase air navigation committee to reach 21.
The Deposit of the Ratification took place in ICAO’s headquarters in Montreal – Canada and was attended by ICAO’s Secretary – General Fang Liu, Sheikh Sultan bin Saeed Al Nahyan, His Excellency Fahad Al Raqbani UAE’s ambassador to Canada, Ayesha Al Hamli the UAE permanent representative in ICAO’s council, Hamad Al Muheiri the assistant director general for Aviation Security Affairs in GCAA, Mohammed Salem the UAE’s deputy representative at ICAO’s council, Saeed Al Suwaidi DG office director ,Mohammed Al Shamsi the Charge d’ affaires in the cultural mission in the UAE’s embassy in Canada, ICAO’s legal affairs director and the accompanying delegation.
H.E GCAA’s DG Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi expressed the importance of the two protocols and was quoted “UAE supports such rectifications as it exerted much efforts for their adoption and approval by the 39 General Assembly in 2016 and which resulted in the adoption of the two protocols amending the convention. The submission of the rectification documents is considered a continuous support form UAE’s efforts in this regard and confirming the necessity of upgrading the representation level to ICAO’s member states and the committees emanating of”.
The ICAO’s Secretary- General hailed UAE’s efforts for signing the two protocols and its continuous support for ICAO and the member states.
